Timing Issues: 

Be aware on race day we had a power failure that seriously hindered timing efforts.  Despite this, all placings and Times Back from 1st (Except Sport) were accurately calculated on race day without resorting to the use of racer timepieces.

Beginner Men and Women results were 100% accurate on race day.  Times in other classes have been uniformly revised (placings and lag time from 1st place remain the same) using supplemental data.

We sincerely apologize to the riders in sport class for the error in placings.  Please remember that this is a fundraiser and mistakes happen.  The mistakes have been corrected below. 

Both race day results and subsequent correction (which are correct) are the sole and complete reponsibility of Will T Smith.  The correct and exceedingly prompt results for the previous 4 years of Outback Time Trials are also the sole and complete responsibility of Will T Smith.  I ask everyone to remember that because of the power problem, I had to do considerably more work both on race day and on subsequent days to produce results.  This corresponded with heavier work loads both at home and at work.  Do realize that I have done all of this work to get you accurate results as I have for the past 4 years.  It would have been far easier for me if we paid $400 for the chip timer to do it.  That is $400 less money for trail improvements.

Finally, I ask everyone to understand why we could not use racer time pieces to determine finish order after our technical problem.  There are many reasons a timepiece may be slow.  Batteries in the sensor may be low, the magnet can get knocked too far away from the sensor.  Sometimes wireless cyclo-computers interfere with each other.  Most of us have our computers set to "auto-start" and there are RPM thresholds below which the clock will not run.  Computers with electrical contact mounts may not make correct contact or water can short the interface.  There are MANY, MANY reasons why a racers clock may have error.  To determine a finish order we must use ONE clock and judge everyone in a class by the results in a uniform way.  Doing otherwise would lead to accusations of bias and a fight over who's clock is right and wrong.

Despite having flaws on race day, the use of a common clock has eventually given us the correct results.  I again apologize for the delay and I especially apologize to the riders in Sport class.  Any issues or comments, please email webmaster@outbacktrail.org.
